The Falcon Project

For many classic American enthusiasts the crowning glory to a long, drawn out restoration is a top – notch paint job. While many classic owners may be happy to undertake mechanical restoration of their vehicle and even fitting carpets or interior trim, most leave the job of painting to the experts. After all, you wouldnt perform your own dental work or cut your own hair and expect to achieve the same results as someone who has been professionally trained with years of experience, so why would one expect it to be any different with prepping and painting a car?
We entrusted the Classic American Falcon Project to Cheshire Accident Management; dont let the name fool you – like many bodyshops, insurance repair work is an important part of the firms portfolio of work.
Located across the road from where the mechanical restoration was being carried out at Dave Madders, Cheshire Accident Management is run by Paul Moore, who not only has painted numerous American cars over the years, but is also a big American car fan. His first project was a 1957 DeSoto sourced from Luxury and Power, after which he moved on to various Mopar muscle machines. Over his career Paul has painted about 50 American cars and enjoys tackling the older ones: “Classic American cars are built to be taken apart and resprayed; remember they were hand assembled, whereas modern cars are built using robots and are consequently much more complex to take apart.” With this background we were confident in his ability to produce a tiptop paint job that wouldnt break the bank.
